Chillin' at the farmers market

MILFORD — The heat drove shoppers to select chilled juices, ice pops, fresh crispy salads, and fat vegan burgers for on-the-spot consumption at opening day for the Milford Farmers Market
The 92-degree heat and a musical performance by Sara Hulse and Bobby Kyle put the crowd in a summer mood. Many carried packages of gourmet foods, farm-fresh products, and gifts to their cars.
A steady surge of traffic to the market, on the grounds of the Grotto Italian Restaurant, kept vendors bustling throughout the day on Sunday.
Junior Dabashi watched as shoppers parked in the lot of his Key Foods supermarket. David Wallace thanked Dabashi for his good will and generous spirit.
Wallace said he was happy to see so many people enjoying music and conversation in addition to the market fare. The once-fledgling farmers market is now an area event, he said.
The environmental non-profit Air Soil Water hosts the market, to be held rain or shine from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Sunday through Oct. 16 at The Grotto, 508 West Harford Street in Milford.
