It's road work time again

MILFORD — Supervisor Gary Williams said Milford township crews have been busy with one that task that comes around every spring: road work.

This is what they did:
Shocopee Road: laid 400 tons of modified dirt, rebuilt two sections and graded the lower portion

Fire Tower Road: all graded
Old Milford Road: most of it graded

Owego Turnpike: accessible parts graded

Evergreen Lane: performed work for the Milford Water Authority, which recently took over responsibility and maintenance of the road.

Williams opened a single sealed bid for the township's salt for the next winter. The sole bid came from American Salt, which has been providing Milford with fire rock-treated salt for the past several years. The bid was for $92.46 per ton. At the requested 300 tons, this would come to $27,738.

Supervisor Don Quick said he felt no need to rush a vote. But Williams and Supervisor Gary Clark wanted to go ahead, upon confirmation from the solicitor, Doug Jacobs, that it did not have to be re-bid . Acquiescing to the wishes of his fellow board members, Quick agreed to accept the bid from American Salt and it passed.

Also up for bid was work on Shocopee Road (chip seal application), Moon Valley Road (blacktopping) and School House Drive (blacktopping). Bids came from Pocono Patching (for Shocopee only), Waco (for all three projects) and from Hanson (the two blacktopping projects only).

Because of their variety, the supervisors tabled the bids to go over them in more detail with the solicitor and other municipal officials. The matter will be taken up again at the next regularly scheduled meeting.

A resident complained about a drainage problem on Shocopee Road adjacent to the Rossinelli property. It appears to be the fault of recent pipeline work and a driveway that was moved. Kevin Stroyan of the planning commission, zoning officer Bob DiLorenzo, and secretary and treasurer Viola Canouse suggested referring the matter to the Pike County Conservation District.

“Sounds like a plan,” said Quick.
