MATAMORAS — You don't have to go into New York City to see some of the top cats in the country in competition!

Aficionados of the unique and cat lovers alike will be captivated by the pedigreed cats on display at The Riverview Inn and Charlie Shay’s Barbecue tent in Matamoras on the weekend of July 14 and 15.

All kinds of cats The sponsoring American Association of Cat Enthusiasts, Inc (AACE) describes the show as a 8-ring, two-day, all breed competition. There will be the rare and adorable short-legged Munchkins (which have been featured in The Wall Street Journal and on Television), and the enigmatic Cornish Rex. For those who prefer more traditional cats, there will be Persians, Siamese, Maine Coons, Oriental Shorthairs, Ragdolls, the new and exotic Bengal, and a host of other pedigreed cats as well as a special competition for Household Pets.

The mayor of Matamoras, Janet Clark will present the awards on Sunday.

Vendors will have products for you and your pampered pet, including wonderful scratching posts and "cat trees" for every decor. These special trees, preferred by cat breeders nation-wide are not available in most stores and are sold at special reduced prices at the cat show. There will also be kittens available for sale from top breeders.

Bring your whole family to watch the cats compete. Spectators are welcome at the show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday & Sunday. Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for seniors and children over 12.

Dogs agility event Cats and dogs will be together at the same place, at the same time for a good cause.

Along with the cat show there will be an agility event for dogs which will be a fundraiser for the purchase of a K-9 dog for the Pike Eastern Regional Police Department. This has been an on-going effort to help with much needed assistance to aid officers in the protection of our loved ones.
