— There are a few openings left at COTA CampJazz.

The camp is all about small group improvisation. Participants start their day with a little creative listening and discussion, then learn — in levels based on experience — repertory-specific theory and ear training. They will experiment with composition and attend lunch-time concerts and master classes on the anatomy of the jam session, discussions of early jazz, and sessions with National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters Phil Woods and Dave Liebman.

The camp includes a field trip to the extensive Al Cohn Memorial Collection, a wealth of musical resources, at East Stroudsburg University. Participants will record at Red Rock Saturday and perform Sunday after the family barbecue, and attend evening performances at the Deer Head Inn in Historic Delaware Water Gap, Pa.

Master classes will be offered by Phil Woods, Caris Visentin, Dixieland great Bob Lieve, Michael Stephans and "Sweet" Sue Terry.

Housing is available at East Stroudsburg University for CampJazz students. The cost for room and board (breakfast and dinner included) is $415. CampJazz tuition is $525.

The deadline to sign up is July 14. For more information visit www.campjazz.org.
