College offers new beekeeping certificate

COVINGTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — The Lackawanna College Environmental Education Center is offering a new multi-level beekeeping certificate program.
This intensive three-step program is designed to provide students with a deep understanding of honey bees and beekeeping, from beginner to advanced. The three-month beginner certificate is currently accepting students for its September launch.
The program is designed to support both new and seasoned beekeepers through an entire apiary year. Participants will learn about honey bee biology, beekeeping equipment, care of bees throughout the year, apiary production, and environmental challenges. By the end of this course, participants will be able to manage honey bee colonies for maximum bee health and honey production.
These programs support a beekeeper's preparation for the Eastern Apicultural Society of North America’s nationally recognized Master Level Beekeeping.
Classes start Sept. 14, and will run every other Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. until Nov. 16. The cost is $250, which includes 10 sessions and handouts.
The program will be held at the Lackawanna College Environmental Education Center, 93 MacKenzie Road, Covington Township.
