— All are invited to the Twin and Walker Creeks Watershed Conservancy’s annual meeting, “Butterflies, Bugs, and your Backyard,” which offers fun for all ages.
The free event will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, in the Walker Lake Clubhouse, 100 Walker Lake Road, Shohola. Stephanie Sherman, director of education for the Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC), will lead the audience on an hour of exploration for native insects in the forest and lake at the clubhouse. Participants will plant milkweed seeds to take home.
After the presentation, judging of the photo contest will take place. Students and adults are encouraged to submit nature photos taken in Pike County between October 2017 and October 2018. More information, including the rules to the photo contest, have been posted on the Conservancy’s website at twcwc.com.
Bottles of wine will be raffled off to those 21 years and older. There is no charge for the raffle tickets.
About the watershedThe Twin and Walker Creeks Watershed is 11.5 square miles and includes approximately 11 miles of streams as well as three glacial lakes: Big Twin Lake, Little Twin Lake, and Walker Lake. Each is a significant natural, aesthetic, and recreational resource that is highly valued by the residents of the several residential communities that surround the lakes.
The Twin and Walker Creeks Watershed Conservancy is a group of concerned citizens who, in some cases, have been working to protect and enhance the water quality of Twin and Walker Lakes for more than 20 years. This group has assumed as its primary function the long-term stewardship of the watershed.
