The annual Milford Readers and Writers Festival is just a couple weeks away. Here are some of the authors, speakers, and performers you can expect to see at this cherished local event, courtesy of Pike Artworks.

World-class pianist and composer Kenny Werner kicks off events at the Milford Theater on Friday night to perform and discuss his writings on “Effortless Mastery.”

On Saturday, Brad Gooch, noted biographer of Flannery O’Connor and Frank O’Hara, will be in conversation with photographer Christopher Makos about the iconic artist Keith Haring, the subject of Gooch’s latest biography, titled “Radiant – The Life and Line of Keith Haring.”

The line-up continues with historical fiction writer Jack Kelly who will discuss his book “God Save Benedict Arnold” with author and historian Brian Carso, author of “Gideon’s Revolution: The Plot to Capture Benedict Arnold.”

Artificial intelligence will be the subject of a panel that includes AI experts and authors Sophia Olivas, Arina Aristova, and David Poyer. Aristova authored the AI fiction, “The Charter of Ailith,” and Poyer has written “Writing in the Age of AI: What You Need to Know to Survive and Thrive.”

Richard Wiese, who climbed Kilimanjaro at age 11, was the longest serving president of the Explorers Club, and host of the Emmy-winning “Born to Explore” will round out the mainstage events to discuss his guidebook, “Born to Explore: How to Be a Backyard Adventurer.” Wiese will be in conversation with writer, director, and producer Megan Smith-Harris.

All Main Stage programs will include a Q&A with the authors. Book signings by mainstage authors will be at the theater following the panels. On Saturday evening, a private reception with festival speakers will take place for festival pass-holders.

The festival will also include two dozen free events and panels at various venues around the town all weekend on a variety of subjects. For example, on Saturday, sci-fi authors will hold a discussion titled “Milford Was/Is a Science Fiction Mecca” at the Pike County Public Library. Also at the library, teen authors will join best-selling author Chuck Wendig. And at Grey Towers, Nancy Pinchot will talk with author Manjula Martin about her book, “The Last Fire Season.” Then on Sunday, free panels with authors will be held at the Waterwheel Café, the library, and Good Shepherd Episcopal Church Hall on subjects including mystery writing, UFOs, healing through poetry, and more.
