Columns Museum to host April ‘Lincoln weekend’ kickoff event MILFORD — The Pike County Historical Society is excited to begin “Lincoln Weekend” with a fabulous mixture of musings and music. As Apr 11th was the night before Lincoln’s assassination back in 1865, it only seem appropriate to have a portrayal of Lincoln that encompasses his thoughts and musings regarding death. It would seem that President Lincoln was often plagued by dreams and visions that warned him of his demise. He told members of his Cabinet that he felt he would “not be around much longer”, the very night before he was shot. Local actor, and friendly face about town, Darren Fouse, who most recently provided the society with a heartfelt reading of “Letters Home” from the Milton Bailey Collection, will be portraying Mr. Lincoln in a short soliloquy that delves into the Presidents thoughts regarding his mortality. The program will be held on the Main Floor of the Columns Museum, located at 608 Broad Street, and will be followed by a musical performance by jazz musician, Martha Lorin and accompanist. Martha is constantly exploring the jazz landscape with a spirit of lifting and broadening her musical acumen. Her explorations have presented the opportunity to work with a wide range of world class musicians, including, Paul Smith, Benny Green, Richard Wyands, Harvey Schwartz, Eddie Marshall, Monty Budwig, Leon Joyce, Butch Miles, and Mark Isham. Martha has done studio work throughout the United States and occasionally appears as a headliner at such N.Y. jazz clubs as Iridium and Birdland, most recently playing an engagement at Carnegie Hall. Acclaimed bassist Don Miller said of working with Martha after a recent gig, “She is one of the finest vocalists I have had the pleasure to work with. I also appreciate her organization, attention to detail, and absolute perfectionism. She is the kind of singer who lifts the music to another level and inspires us all to play better. Unfortunately that is not often the case, which makes me appreciate all the more when it is.” The evening should be quite an enjoyable mix of art forms, and Mr. Fouse’s performance, which will begin at 7 p.m., on April 11, to be followed by Ms. Lorin’s musical stylings and cocktail reception. Tickets for this event are $25 and proceeds benefit the Columns Museum. For tickets to the event, or more information, pl call Lori Strelecki at 570-296-8126.
