Actors' monologues will make you laugh and cry
PORT JERVIS, N.Y. — “Talking Heads," the annual, ever-popular monologue night, returns to Marsh Hall in Port Jervis at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2, and Saturday, Nov. 3.
The performances will feature contrasting monologues — comic and dramatic — presented by actors with The Presby Players Community Theater.
This time, most of the monologues are original, but the audience may recognize a few from classic plays written by Neil Simon or Thornton Wilder.
The performers are directed by Jeffrey Stocker, who says it's a great way to prepare for auditions and castings.
“An actor should always have a monologue or two ready at all times," Stocker said.
Kathy Frahme, who recently retired after a 30-year career as an English teacher in Goshen, will be among the performers.
“It’s so much fun to explore different characters and different sides of one’s personality," Frahme said. "The two monologues I have are very different.”
She adds, “I loved my job, but I’m delighted to be retired and do fun things like this. I used to teach a lot of drama and I’m familiar with a lot of the material.”
Her contrasting monologues are from Keith Reddin’s “The Highest Standard of Living” and Oliver Hailey’s “Father’s Day."
Members of the young adult and the adult acting workshops will be performing.
Marsh Hall is located at 60 Sussex Street, in Port Jervis. Admission is $10 at the door.
