ARTery announces ‘Extraordinary Visions in Paper’
Milford. The new exhibit will run from May 9 to June 3, with an opening reception on May 11.
From complex to the sublime, the work of award-winning artist Chris Hobbs will be featured throughout May at the ARTery gallery in Milford. Hobbs started out making paper mazes in the 1990s back when the ARTery was first formed. Over the past 30 years, the range of his work has expanded to jewelry and three-dimensional graphic replicas of boardwalks, buildings, trains, motorcycles, exotic fish, as well as abstract op-art designs. His array of paper sculptures have earned him more than 30 awards in juried shows across the country.
The gallery describes Hobbs’ creative process as deliberate, well-planned, and time-consuming. Each paper construction begins with a hand-drawn design before being outlined and defined with pen and ink, then cut into small individual units. By stacking multiple layers of these hand-drawn and colored designs, he is able to achieve depth and dimension. For the final touch, he encloses his constructs in deep shadow boxes that complete its environment, ready to adorn your home or office.
The public is invited to meet artists from the ARTery and enjoy refreshments at the reception, on Saturday, May 11, from 6 to 9 p.m. The Hobbs exhibit opened on Thursday, May 9, and runs through Monday, June 3. Gallery hours are Thursday to Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
