ARTery Gallery announces July show ‘Summer Escapes’
Milford. The opening reception for the new exhibit will take place July 13.
The ARTery Gallery’s July exhibit “Summer Escapes,” is a solo show featuring the bold and colorful acrylic paintings of Barbara LaTorre, one of the newest members of the ARTery. A native Jersey girl, La Torre likes to travel locally and internationally. The scenes in her paintings are often reminiscent of summer, from the beach to the mountains to the countryside. “My objective is to bring joy to the viewer,” she says.
Even from across the room, La Torre’s customers seem drawn toward her striking use of color and “high textured” landscapes and florals. She uses painting knives to mix heavy gloss gel or modeling paste into the acrylic paint to create a stunning 3 D effect. Although this medium is currently her most sought-after style by those commissioning her new work, La Torre has been painting in other mediums such as watercolors and oils since the late 1990s. La Torre says if she is not painting, she is planning her next trip with her husband Dave, or playing board games with her family.
You can meet Barbara La Torre at her opening reception on Saturday, July13 from 6 to 9 p.m., which includes refreshments. The ARTery welcomes the public to this free cultural event. The month-long exhibit will be on display from Thursday, July 11 through Monday, August 5 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday through Monday. For inquiries, call 570-409-1234.
