— The Black Bear Film Festival is in its 15th year of celebrating the art of independent film — from the writers and actors to directors and the producers.

After a year's worth of planning, it's finally here. Films will be screened at the Milford Theatre, 114 East Catherine St., with more at the salon to be held at the public library in Milford, 402 Broad Street.

The screenings begin Friday night, following the Crystal Gala, with the movie "Chef," and continues through Sunday night, Oct. 19.

"Milford will celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Black Bear Film Festival on the weekend of Oct. 17, 18 and 19 by continuing the tradition of bringing the best of independent cinema to a town renowned for its strong sense of community and support of the arts," said festival founder Jerry Beaver. "The BBFF provides not only the opportunity for the people of the Delaware Highlands and the Pocono Mountains to experience excellence in movie making, but serves as a platform for both young and established filmmakers to exhibit their works to grateful audiences, critics, members of the movie industry and their fellow filmmakers."

The festival hosts educational programs, ecological and historic preservation efforts, additional film venues during the festival and throughout the year to promote the cultural enhancement of this beautiful pristine region.
