Coming to the ARTery: 'Nature Smiles in Color

MILFORD — Madeline Tully’s work elicits a walk through a garden or a wistful step back in time. Claude Larson's works celebrate the colors of nature.
These are the featured artists of the new exhibit, "Nature Smiles in Color," at the ARTery Gallery, 210 Broad St., Milford.
Tully is an early member of the 19-year-old cooperative gallery, and her work is very popular with visitors. Her paintings use striking color and a style reminiscent of the Old Masters and Impressionists to depict scenes and florals. Her years of study in oils and watercolor in New York City and Milford have led her to create works of vibrant visual appeal and elegant style.
Her portraiture feels romantic, as if rooted in another era. Her florals and landscapes are fluid and transparent. She is a painter that succeeds in making watercolors the visual equal of oil painting. You can feel her love of natural settings and elegant flowers emanate from her richly colored paintings.
Larson presents a collection of works that interpret the natural world through textiles and collage. From the smallest blooms to the far reaches of space, Larson's hand-dyed fabrics and hand-painted papers represent elements and events of nature in stunning works of contemporary art. Also a teacher, she shares her techniques to new and experienced artists, both teens and adults, at the gallery.
Meet Tully and Larson at their gallery reception on July 14 from 6 to 9 p.m. at The ARTery Gallery. The show will run from July 12 through Aug. 6.
Gallery hours are Thursday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Monday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
