Dingmans Ferry. This year’s show, “An Evening Under the Stars, Live from the Lounge,” features fabulous singers from around Dingmans Ferry and Delaware Township.
The Dingmans Ferry Theatre is putting on its second free outdoor show at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug, 14.
Back by popular demand is Jim Manfredonia, who sings Sinatra songs while he hosts the show. This year’s show, “An Evening Under the Stars, Live from the Lounge,” features fabulous singers from around Dingmans Ferry and Delaware Township, local talent that will surprise and delight you.
The theater is located in beautiful Akenac Park, off Route 739 in Delaware Township. The gates open at 6:30 p.m. Tours of the completed theatre, built over the last year, will be offered before the show.
Light refreshments will be on sale before the show. Bring a blanket or chairs and a flashlight, and wear some bug repellent.
The Dingmans Ferry Theatre opened in 2020 with an outdoor show. This summer saw the completion of the inside of the intimate space, which has a new stage, lighting system, carpet, doors with ADA access, and chairs, along with a team of theater professionals and volunteers.
Created by Dingmans Ferry resident Dennis Lee, the theater started in 2019 with a petition for use of a vacant building in Akenac Park. Lee knows theater has great potential for bringing people together.
The Delaware Township supervisors agreed, and the building was gutted, cleaned, repaired, painted, wired, and readied for use. During the first year of Covid restrictions, work was done by Lee with small, socially distanced groups of volunteers. By last summer, the idea for the inaugural show held outdoors took shape. That first show was a big hit, with calls to do it again. And so they are.
