Edgar Allan Poe returns to Grey Towers
Milford. Catch these readings Oct. 26.
As the leaves turn and the air grows crisp, the spirit of Halloween descends upon Grey Towers National Historic Site with an event steeped in tradition and artistry: the annual Dramatic Readings of Edgar Allan Poe, where members of the American Readers Theatre breathe life into three new stories inspired by Poe’s masterful works.
This beloved event, now celebrating its 15th year, transforms the candlelit Great Hall of the Grey Towers mansion into a hauntingly beautiful setting that echoes with the legacy of one of America’s greatest literary figures.
Performances will take place October 26 at 1 p.m., 3 p.m., and 5 p.m., with limited seating available for each show. Tickets are priced at $5 for students (ages 13 and up), $20 for Grey Towers Heritage Association members, and $25 for the general public.
“This annual event is a seasonal highlight for me,” shares Don Allen, GTHA gift shop coordinator. “I love seeing familiar faces returning each year — it truly captures the spirit of the season and keeps the tradition alive.”
As dusk falls, the dedicated Grey Towers Horticultural Team will unveil a display of carved pumpkins, featuring designs of the mansion, spooky cats, and witches on broomsticks. “The lighted pumpkin display alone is worth the visit,” said Jeff McQuaid, long-time attendee. “The craftsmanship is remarkable and adds to the enchanting atmosphere of the evening.”
