MILFORD — Free admission and a re-creation of Gov. Gifford Pinchot’s community ice cream social at his Milford home, Grey Towers, will be held at Grey Towers National Historic Site, Milford, on Sunday, Aug. 11.
To mark Pinchot’s 148 birthday, the US Forest Service will offer free admission to the 19 century French chateauesque mansion, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free visitor films will be shown throughout the day, including the film showing President John F. Kennedy’s Sept. 24, 1963, dedication of Grey Towers.
From 2 to 4 p.m., a free Ice Cream Social, sponsored by the Grey Towers Heritage Association, will be held on the grounds to re-recreate the ice cream socials that the Pinchot family offered when Pinchot was Governor of Pennsylvania.
In lieu of a fee, the GTHA requests the donation of a non-perishable food item, which will be donated to a local food pantry.
The US Forest Service will open all three floors of the mansion to visitors from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at no charge.
