Grey Towers offers free springtime tours
MILFORD - Free, guided tours of Grey Towers National Historic Site will be offered on weekends beginning April 22 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. and will continue each weekend through May until Memorial Day weekend. The springtime tour opening coincides with Milford’s Pear Blossom Festival. The regular tour schedule - 7 days a week with tours on the hour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. - begins Memorial Day weekend. A nominal fee is charged for guided tours of the mansion during the regular tour season. Grey Towers’ grounds are free and open to the public every day from dawn to dusk. Also beginning Memorial Day weekend, Grey Towers will begin offering new specialized tours that introduce visitors to the upper floors of the mansion and to some of the landscape features. Those tours will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays. “Over the years we’ve had increased interest in opening Grey Towers earlier in the season than usual,” said Lori McKean, Assistant Director for Programs and Communications. “By offering these free weekend tours beginning in mid-April, we not only increase our accessibility to the community but help provide support for the ongoing regional tourism efforts.” The earlier opening and new specialized tours also are offered in response to feedback from the community. Visitors are asked to enter the site through the upper drive while construction continues at the front, lower drive.
