Historical Society to host Madame Peirce’s Cabaret and Tarot Card Party
Milford. This event will take place Saturday, March 23, in the Foundation Room of the Columns Museum.
The Pike County Historical Society has a fun even planned for March 23, “Madame Peirce’s Cabaret and Tarot Card Party!” This entertaining event will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Foundation Room of the Columns Museum (608 Broad St, Milford).
Madame Juliette Peirce was the wife of heralded philosopher Charles Saunders Peirce who resided in nearby Westfall Township in the home known to them as “Arisbe.”
According to the Historical Society, the philosopher had every intention of making the home a place for somewhat of a “think tank” where many of the great minds of the time could meet and discuss theories and philosophies still new and uncharted.
Juliette, Charles’ second wife, was a woman of mystery and intrigue. She supported her husband whole heartedly until his death and admired him profoundly. She was cloaked in a shroud of mystery, as no one is clear about where she came from. She claimed to possess a deck of tarot cards which were used to foretell the downfall of Napoleon; she often did tarot readings for local charities. In the spirit of Madame Peirce, the Historical Society will offer a celebration that she would have enjoyed: a cabaret-style musical offering featuring Patricia Durante and Collin Maier, some delightful sweets and savories to amuse the palate, complimentary glass of wine or beer, and private readings of the tarot, for guests who dare, by, Madame Veronica and Mademoiselle Ann Marie.
The cost is $50 per person, which includes the show, libation, sweets and savories, and a 10-minute tarot card reading (if you like).
Reservations are required and can be obtained by calling 570-296-8126 or emailing pikemuse@ptd.net. Tickets may also be purchased online at pikehistorical.org or via The Columns Museum Facebook page.
