The New Jersey State Fair is now accepting entries from the public for the 2021 Amateur Flower and Vegetable shows.
The flower show has two main divisions: horticulture and artistic.
The horticulture division features everything from single stem sunflowers, dahlias, and sunflowers to potted foliage and flowering plants. There are dozens of categories to choose from.
The artistic division challenges gardeners to create an arrangement according to specific instructions. The “Day at the Jersey Shore” category, for example, must feature homegrown flowers in a seashell container. “Home on the Plains,” entries should feature a variety of grasses and wildflowers in a hat. There are six different categories this year.
The Vegetable Show is accepting entries in dozens of categories, from homegrown veggies to herbs and garlic. There’s also a “Largest Zucchini by Weight” and scarecrow contest.
Entries will be judged and on display at the New Jersey State Fair at the Sussex County Fairgrounds August 7 - 14.
A complete list of rules and categories is available at sussexcountyfairgrounds.org under the “Be an Exhibitor” tab. All Flower Show entries must pre-register no later than July 16. Vegetable Show entrants are encouraged to pre-register.
