Kindred Spirits brings free family concert to Milford
Milford. This performance will take place on March 2 at the high school.

Bring your family to hear the beloved tales, “The Carnival of the Animals” by Camille Saint-Saëns and “Peter and the Wolf” by Sergei Prokofiev on Sunday March 2 at 3 p.m. at the Delaware Valley High School on Rt.6 & 209 in Milford. The event is free and open to the public.
Sponsored by Kindred Spirits Arts Programs (KSAP) in partnership with the Delaware Valley School District, the concert will appeal to all ages. World-class pianist Frederic Chiu will play the famous works as prizewinning story teller David Gonzalez narrates the stories. Projected images will illustrate the music and hold everyone’s attention.
The celebrated French composer, Camille Saint-Saëns wrote “The Carnival of the Animals” in 1886 as a comedic piece to be performed in the homes of his friends. There are 14 movements, and each represents an animal, group of animals, or a type of person. Describing it as a “grand zoological fantasy,” the composer considered it to be only a joke, was against publishing it and relented only for a famous cello solo, “The Swan.”
“Peter and the Wolf” tells the story of a young boy named Peter, who bravely trapped the big-bad wolf with the help of animals. Written in 1936 by the Russian Sergei Prokofiev to introduce children to the orchestral instruments, the composer assigned each animal a specific instrument and musical theme.
Both works are popular around the world and staples of orchestras and chamber music groups.
“Kindred Spirits is delighted to offer this special concert as a free gift to Milford and the surrounding area,” said Yosif Feigelson, artistic director of KSAP. “Children of all ages are welcome and will enjoy the music, the stories, and the projected images.”
Now in its 24th year, KSAP is not-for-profit organization of volunteers that brings performing artists to northeast Pennsylvania.
KSAP also arranges educational enrichment workshops for high school students. Visit kindredspiritsarts.org, email kindredspir@yahoo.com, or call 570-390- 8699 to learn more.
