Kindred Spirts announces final concert for the summer
Milford. Enjoy the program ‘Tesla String Quartet: Vienna by Day & Night’ Sept. 14.
Kindred Spirts Arts’ final event of their Summer Concert Series – “Tesla String Quartet: Vienna by Day & Night” – will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, under the open-air Pool Pavilion at Grey Towers National Historic Site.
The New York City-based quartet will perform selections by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Schubert, Anton Webern, and others. Founded in 2008 by four Juilliard graduates, the group searched for a unique name.
“We wanted something less traditional,” said violinist Ross Snyder. “Most classical ensembles are named for a famous composer, or a location, or a musical phrase. We wanted a more contemporary name and landed on Tesla, after the inventor Nikola Tesla.”
While the other three original members have changed a couple times since its founding, the mission of Tesla Quartet remains resolute.
“Tesla did experimental work harnessing the Earth’s natural forces into electricity, transmitting wirelessly,” Snyder said. “We feel in our performances as a quarter we tap into a shared emotional power, transmitting to the audience.”
Other members of the Tesla Quartet include Michelle Lie (violin), Edwin Kaplan (viola), and Austin Fisher (cello).
Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at Eventbrite, kindredspiritsarts.org, or at the door.
