Love can be funny!
Port Jervis. Join the The Presby Players for “My Funny Valentine” next weekend.
The Presby Players Community Theater will be delivering some smiles for Valentine’s Day, in the form of their annual musical production celebrating love. The show is titled “My Funny Valentine” and Musical Director Sandy Stalter says, “I’m really excited about this production. My favorite songs to sing are always tunes with a strong element of humor.”
Since comedy can be more difficult to pull off, Stalter says she and Artistic Director Jeffrey Stocker thought this would be a great learning opportunity. “It will help some of our performers develop the sense of timing that is so important in comedy,” she explained. Stocker agreed and added, “This is the first time we are actually doing just comedy in music. It’ll be an uplifting and inspirational valentine’s day — no sad ballads!”
Different genres will be represented, from the county-western hit “Me Neither” to Broadway’s “Do You Love Me” from “Fiddler on the Roof.” There will also be choreography by Melissa Thomas.
“My Funny Valentine” will be at Marsh Hall, 60 Sussex Street, Port Jervis, at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, February 16 and 17, and at 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 18.
Tickets are $15 for general admission, $10 for student admission.
