Lunch and learn about regional, historic artwork
Milford. Grey Towers Heritage Association’s Lunch and Learn Series continues with a presentation by artist Marie Liu.
Grey Towers Heritage Association (GTHA) will present “The History of Art in the Minisink/Pocono Region and the Pinchot Connection” with artist Marie Liu on Saturday, March 12. The event, part of Grey Towers’ Lunch and Learn Series, will take place at Pike County Public Library in Milford, Pa.
With numerous images and examples, Liu will introduce attendees to the artists who have captured the region through their art. She will be highlighting the art collection of James Pinchot and his connection to the famous Hudson River School, and their shared contribution to the burgeoning conservation movement of that era.
Liu will also discuss how factors such as geography, geology, religion and war all played a role in the artistic output reflecting the Minisink region.
Her research on this topic began as an educational component to her artist residency for the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area in 2016. The presentation grew over the years as she discovered more and more.
GTHA supports the United States Forest Service’s efforts to preserve and maintain the integrity of the historic Grey Towers National Historic Site, and to strengthen the connection of Grey Towers to the local community.
The series of afternoon lectures focus on interesting topics that relate to the Pinchot family, followed by lunch and discussion. A variety of homemade soups will be served.
The event will take place on March 12 at 11:30 a.m. at the Pike County Public Library, 119 East Harford St. Milford PA 18337. Space is limited, reservations can be made at greytowers.org/events. Snow date is March 19.
