Magical Mystery Valentine’s Concert is coming to the Milford Theater

What’s your favorite classic rock band? Is it the Beatles? How about Led Zeppelin, or The Doors?

No worries. You don’t have to choose because the Magical Mystery Doors Band will be playing songs from all three on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 8 p.m. at the Milford Theater.

Vinny DeRenzis, the lead singer and guitar player of this innovative six-person tribute band, grew up in Stroudsburg, where he fell in love with music and the Beatles in particular.

“The Beatles made me want to be a musician,” he said.

Several years ago DeRenzis met fellow musician and musical producer Jeff Tomrell, who produces other bands, including Go Go Gadjet). Tomrell will be appearing at the Saturday night concert as part of MMD. Actually, Tomrell is the one responsible for the more unique elements of the show, like the amazing two-drummer riff just before the intermission that rocks the house. He’s created a special light show, synced up to specific moments in the songs, that provides another visual element.

Tomrell has a gift for feeling the music in a way that allows the band to do “mash-ups,” songs that work well together in combinations.

For example, the band may play the music to Led Zeppelin’s “Misty Mountain Hop” while DeRenzis sings the music and lyrics to the Doors’ “Hello, I Love you.”

“It works out perfectly,” says DeRenzis.

He continues, “We love to be able to do these songs in a way that is very special to us, and it is even more amazing when we see the audience reaction.”

It seems to be one of surprise at first, and then comes the “Ah ha!” moment of recognition. MMD also does many of the songs in the concert as full songs.

The audience usually includes some who actually went to these concerts in the ‘60s and ‘70s, along with young people who fell in love with the music at what seems like just yesterday. Nostalgia meets futuristic.

At the Saturday night concert, MMD will open the show with Led Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll,” which goes right into The Doors’ “Break on Through to the Other Side,” and finally into the Beatles’ “Come Together” — an exciting combination of all three tunes.

It will rock the house.

The Milford Theater opens at 7 p.m. Proof of vaccination is necessary as is wearing masks in the theater. Tickets are $30 and available at themilfordtheater.freshtix.com.
