Paupack. The event is one of several fundraisers the church holds every year, with funds supporting such groups as the Disabled American Veterans, Safe Haven of Pike County and the Victims’ Intervention Program of Wayne County.
The Paupack United Methodist Women (UMW) will host their annual flea market and chicken barbecue on Saturday, Aug. 12, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the church at 579 Route 507 in Paupack.
“We’re back and better than ever!” said Nancy Lukacinsky, event chairperson.
The annual event, held for more than 50 years, was only cancelled once - in 2020, due to the COVID crisis. The chicken barbecue was started 11 years ago on the same day as an extra attraction.

Lukacinsky said flea market donations may be dropped off at the church’s back door during the following times:
Saturday, Aug. 5, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 6, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Monday through Friday (Aug. 7 to 11): 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
A church member will be on hand to help at drop off. Please do not leave items except at the above times.
The following donations are welcome: Glassware, kitchen items, small tools and hardware, vintage jewelry, toys, sporting goods, games, pictures in frames, small furniture and lamps, linens and towels, and Christmas decorations (no artificial Christmas trees, please). Prices range from 25 cents on up.
“It’s good stuff, cheap!” Lukacinsky said.
Please do not donate large or upholstered pieces of furniture, clothing, electronics, car seats or cribs, or textbooks or encyclopedias.
All items must be clean and in good condition.
The barbecue
The chicken barbecue will feature two pieces of chicken, baked beans, homemade coleslaw from the UMW’s time-honored recipe, a roll and butter and dessert. The cost is $12/meal and people can pick up their meals at the front of the church on Route 507 without leaving their cars.
Meals are takeout only, starting at 10 a.m., until supplies run out.
Where does the money go
The event is one of several fundraisers the church holds every year. Lukacinsky said the UMW supports 10 to 20 local, national and global charities, including the Disabled American Veterans, Safe Haven of Pike County and the Victims’ Intervention Program of Wayne County. The organization also contributes money to help sustain the Paupack Church, including its Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry.
The Paupack UMW has a core group of 28 members, but every woman at church is considered a member. “Show your support as we continue our mission and our tradition,” Lukacinsky added.
