Port Jervis. Celebrate Valentine’s Day with ‘Reel Love’
Music and song are among the most enjoyable ways in which to celebrate love, and with Valentine’s Day around the corner, it’s a great time to catch The Presby Players perform “Reel Love” – a cabaret of love songs from favorite movies, old and new.
The idea, said Musical Director Sandy Stalter, was to move away from Broadway tunes and do something new. “
We decided to do a show featuring original songs that were written specifically for movies,” said Stalter, adding “the songs will come from movies dating back to 1932 and as recent as 2017.”
A cast of more than 20 performers will be singing and there will be at least two group numbers choreographed by Melissa Thomas.
“We love working with Melissa,” said Director Jeffrey Stocker. “I think the audience will love it. The dance is great and there are a lot of songs they will recognize and probably some new ones.”
The Valentine’s show is an annual tradition for members of this long-running community theater.
Noreen Hanson will be among the performers, singing “Holding Out for a Hero” from Footloose and “The Wind Beneath my Wings” from Beaches.
“I like to have a chance to perform myself,” said Hanson, who teaches choir and gives vocal lessons in Warwick, N.Y. “I’m just here to have fun.”
“Reel Love” will be performed on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10 and 11, at 7 p.m., and on Sunday, Feb. 12, at 3 pm., at Marsh Hall, 60 Sussex St., Port Jervis, N.Y.
Tickets are $15 at the door.
