Pride Month theater and music celebration at Tusten Theatre

Delaware Valley Arts Alliance celebrates Pride Month beginning on June 24, at 7:30 p.m., with a performance of ¡Oso Fabuloso and the Bear Backs. This rock-confessional musical is akin to Hedwig and the Angry Inch but riskier, according to the Alliance.

The show tells the story of a queer Latine Bear named Oso Fabuloso (C. Julian Jiménez), who has recently been dumped by a two-timing Daddy bear. Oso seeks the help of his therapist Dr. Calvo (P.K. Variance), who convinces him to sing the blues away. Oso goes on tour with his therapist and his two best friends, Gummy (Vasilios Leon) and Grizz (Joseph Distl), hoping it will cure him of his romantic woes. An INTAR (International Arts Relations) production, Oso Fabuloso debuted in NYC with performances at Joe’s Pub and the McKittrick Hotel.

The celebration continues on Saturday, June 25, at 7:30 p.m. with Trans-Parent Love: Boys will be Girls, by Maureen Muldoon. This one-woman show travels the journey of coming out as transgender from the point of view of the mother of a transgender child. The goal of Trans-Parent Love is to promote conversations that help people talk about the questions, concerns, and commonalities people have with each other. A discussion is held after the show where a panel of parents can share their stories.

“ While our year-round programming regularly features LGBTQ+ voices, it is important to take a part in this annual recognition of LGTBQ+ civil rights that has been marked since the Stonewall Riots in NYC in 1969,” says DVAA’s Executive Director, Ariel Shanberg.
