“Reel People,” the latest production of the Presby Players Community Theater with monologues from different movies spanning decades, opens on April 20, 2023 at Marsh Hall in Port Jervis.
The monologues include the 1940 screenplay of “The Grapes of Wrath” and the 2019 film, “Marriage Story.”
Twelve members of Director Jeffrey Stocker’s adult acting workshop will perform at least one and as many as three monologues that inspired them.
“I’m very excited about this. In the past, the actors chose monologues from stage plays,” Stocker said. “This will be the first time performing monologues from screenplays. It should be as entertaining as our Valentine’s Day musical of love songs from movies, ‘Reel Love,’ which was sold out.” He added that the audience can expect to hear performances from different genres of films such as “Poltergeist,” “The Devil Wears Prada,” and “Tootsie.”
In a fun participation activity, cast members will recite a line from a movie that the audience will be invited to identify, Stocker said.
“Reel People” performances will be held on April 20, 21 and 22. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door.
