Tunes Along the Towpath returns Sept. 16
Lackawaxen. The music event was rained out in June, and is rescheduled for Sept. 16. Tickets are still available, and June tickets will be honored at the event.
After being rained out in June, Tunes Along the Towpath is rescheduled for Saturday, Sept. 15. The music event, hosted by The Pike County Historical Society, will take place in the fields behind Canal House 16 at 495 Towpath Rd in Lackawaxen, Pa.
The gates open at 2 p.m., and music begins at 3 p.m. Two cover bands, Gratefully Yours and Feast of Friends, will play songs by The Doors and The Grateful Dead.
Gratefully Yours was founded in 2012 by keyboardist Alex Mazur, who is also the founder of The Deadbeats; one of the longest running Grateful Dead cover bands in existence. Based out of New York’s Hudson Valley, Gratefully Yours is comprised of an all-star lineup of highly-regarded jam band musicians from the region. The band is dedicated to creating that Grateful Dead “magic.”
Feast of Friends remains one of the only active Doors Tribute Bands in the Northeast. Their live performances have been described as “spooky in their accuracy,” “unbelievable,” and “powerful and electrifying.” Feast of Friends is not your typical “parody” tribute act; there are no costumes, wigs or a Jim Morrison look-alikes. Instead, this tribute pays homage to the music of The Doors with precision and accuracy, fusing elements of the bands studio sound with their epic improvisational live performances. Each memorable performance features the classic hit songs, plus tons of deep tracks, most of which were never performed live by The Doors, carefully selected from the bands catalog ranging from 1967-1971.
Concertgoers should bring lawn chairs to watch the shows, and are welcome to pack coolers -- the event is BYOB (bring your own booze).
On top of live music, Tunes Along the Towpath will also feature a do-it-yourself tie-dye table, food and drinks for purchase, and other contests. Attendees are encouraged to don their best ‘60s looks; prizes awarded for “best hippie attire.”
All proceeds will benefit the Pike County Historical Society’s “More than Milford” campaign, an ongoing project promoting the history of the Delaware and Hudson Canal, and engaging rural communities in Pike County through pop-up exhibits and historical programming.
Tickets for Tunes Along the Towpath are $25 and can be purchased at The Pike County Historical Society or on the historical society’s website: pikehistorical.org/events
Limited tickets will be available at the gate the day of the show. All transactions at the event will be cash only.
