UpFront Exhibition Space announces ‘Fall into Winter’ art show
Port Jervis. The show will run from Nov. 3 to Dec. 31.
The UpFront Exhibition Space, at 31 Jersey Ave., Port Jervis, will present a variety of pieces from three local artists exploring different art styles for the upcoming show “Fall into Winter,” slated to run from November 3 through December 31.
The show’s announcement highlighted three works by the artists — Gordon Graff, Barbara Nagel, and Michael Adams — that will be on display.
”Flown Away”, a relief sculpture by Graff, is about escaping in time, the event organizers explained in the show announcement. “Viewing Gordon’s work is often a storytelling experience. He brings found objects together that connect in an intuitive way. He then assembles them into an old story or a new idea, inviting the viewer to wonder. In this piece the smashed cage can mean loss of home or gaining freedom. It has a double meaning as does the flue vent in the top corner which lightens the mood with a visual pun.”
Barbara Nagel’s acrylic painting “Walking Man” is meant to be a symbol of self exploration. “Her humble image, in its many forms, represents the adventure that is the human experience. Her ghosted man appears like a metaphor moving through a forested space possibly in search of self. The ancient mythologies illustrated this human quest for self and reason for being.” Her work was likened to those of Giacometti and Rodin who made sculptures of walking man representing life forces.
Michael Adams “Sunflower” photograph, exhibiting rich colors and light absorption, projecting a face of the sun. “This iconic image is a symbol of hope and the national flower of Ukraine,” the announcement explained. “The sunflower’s triple features of light, heat, and food are broadcast by it’s beautiful face. It has become a metaphor for the human quest for enlightenment and self realization. Michael’s careful use of lighting gives this sunflower it’s brilliant color and detail.”
An opening reception will take place at the space on Saturday, November 18, from 1 to 6 p.m., with a closing reception planned for December 16, from 1 to 5 p.m.
