UpFront Exhibition Space to feature ‘The Altered Nine’
Port Jervis. Tickets to the May 25 concert are $20.
The UpFront Exhibition Space, at 31 Jersey Ave., Port Jervis, will be hosting jazz band The Altered Nine on Saturday, May 25 at 7 p.m.
The Altered Nine is a Hudson Valley-based jazz “nonet” directed by Jon Leonard that focuses on “improvisation within the framework of colorful arrangements.”
“While comparisons to ‘big band’ are fair and inevitable, Alt 9’s defining philosophy is to showcase a player’s expressive individuality, and the result is as much ‘enhanced combo’ as it is ‘small big band,’” the venue explained in its announcement.
In addition to playing some pieces from notable jazz greats, the performance will also feature original material from The Altered Nine members. The Altered Nine includes established players and educators who are active throughout the greater Hudson Valley and tri-state region, with numerous creative endeavors of their own.
Tickets can be purchased at the door the night of the performance for $20. The UpFront Gallery’s current art exhibit will be open that day from 1 p.m. through to the start of the concert at 7 p.m. For questions, call 845-754-1808.
