Callicoon. Delaware Valley Arts Alliance and Callicoon Theater have announced the first two films in their winter film series, CineArt, featuring independent films that are strong award contenders. Screening from Jan. 17 to 23 is "Dark Waters," the story of an attorney (Mark Ruffalo) who risks his career and family to uncover a dark secret hidden by one of the world’s largest corporations and to bring justice to a community dangerously exposed for decades to deadly chemicals. From Jan. 24 to 30 is "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood," starring Tom Hanks as Mister Rogers, is a story of kindness triumphing over cynicism, based on the real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod. The films will screen nightly at 7:30 pm, with matinees at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at the Callicoon Theater, 30 Upper Main St., Callicoon, N.Y. Admission is $11 ($9 admission on Mondays and matinees) and $8 for children under 12 at all shows. A percentage of the proceeds and $1 per person from ticket sales benefit the programs and services of the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance, the Arts Council for Sullivan County.
