Delaware Valley High School to participate in ‘Socktober’
Milford. The initiative aims to to collect sock donations for people in need.
Delaware Valley High School this month announced participation in “Socktober” as part of the district’s 1DV Initiative, which works to unify the district around shared causes. As part of this new push, Dr. Jayson Pope, assistant to the superintendent for Federal Programs and Community Engagement, and world languages teacher Donnel Leiva-Vazquez invited DVE-News/TV reporters to discuss the initiative. They were met by Junior Council President Luke Peerboom, Vice President Abby Chudoba, Secretary Ava Krazewski, Treasurer Anna Vogel and Sergeant at Arms Peyton LaRocco.
The Socktober idea was first created by Brad Montague in October 2011 on YouTube so people could donate clean, new socks and this year 1DV picked it up. Sock donations are encouraged throughout the month of October. Students enjoy doing this because they feel they are giving back to the community and helping those in need.
The socks will be sent to the high school at the end of the month via interoffice mail. Then the Junior Council, with the help of Dr. Pope, will deliver the socks to the Family Promise of Pike County, the Pike County Child & Youth, and the Victims Intervention Program.
If anyone is interested in donating new socks, they can drop off the socks at any school office in the Delaware Valley School District. The Junior Council is hoping to get well over 1,000 pairs of socks in donations.
