Lemnitzer Fund donates $24,559.54 to Wayne Memorial Health Foundation
Honesdale. Ernest Lemnitzer and his brother Lyman, who went on to be Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, both graduated from Honesdale High School. The Ernest and Margaret Lemnitzer Memorial Fund was started in 1991 to continue the family’s practice of supporting local charities.
A charitable contribution of $24,559.54 recently went to the Wayne Memorial Health Foundation’s Century Fund from the Ernest and Margaret Lemnitzer Memorial Fund. The donation brings the total distributed to the Foundation since the fund’s inception to nearly $348,000.
The Lemnitzer Memorial Fund was created in 1991 to continue the Lemnitzer family’s legacy of supporting local charitable organizations and providing scholarships to Honesdale High School students. Ernest Lemnitzer was the brother of the former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Honesdale resident, Lyman Lemnitzer.
The Ernest and Margaret Lemnitzer Memorial Fund is administered by The Honesdale National Bank (HNB) and local Honesdale businessman, Paul Meagher. To date, grants in excess of $2.7 Million have been paid to qualifying recipients.
“The Ernest and Margaret Lemnitzer Fund has benefited so many in our community, including young people who sought nursing careers at Wayne Memorial Hospital,” said Lisa Champeau, director of the Wayne Memorial Health Foundation. “The fund’s support of our Foundation and its goals has been unwavering.”
