Tim Sohn, a 15+ year survivor of chronic leukemia, began sharing his story of living with cancer publicly in June of 2021.On Sept. 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sohn will host Showing Up: Perspectives On Cancer as an in person event at Park Street Complex, 648 Park St., in Honesdale.
This is the first in-person event in connection with the weekly livestreamed show, found on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter & YouTube.
“In November 2021 I created the livestreamed show, Showing Up: Perspectives On Cancer, as a safe space where cancer patients, survivors and supporters could share their stories and receive love and support from people who tune in each week and share their connections and perspectives on cancer in the Comments. It’s a beautiful community of people who come together from around the world. Now it’s time to come together in person,” said Sohn.
He recently received the Mission Award from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for organizing a 24 hour live-streamed fundraiser that raised thousands of dollars and brought 24 hours of cancer awareness. The event is now free thanks to a partnership with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society as well as the generosity of all the sponsors for the event: Pinky Swear Foundation, Ruse Hedge Coaching & Consulting, Veronica Jeans, XCures, Fuhsion Marketing, Carol and George Sohn, ReTress and Chasing Joy.
The agenda for the day includes:
• A keynote by Nancy Barrows, the creator of the #RadiatingReal movement, one of the people who inspired Sohn to share his cancer story
.• Small breakout groups where attendees can share their cancer stories and receive support from other attendees in the safe space.
• Sohn will be sharing his cancer story for the first time in person at the event.
• The first ever in person Showing Up: Perspectives On Cancer episode will also be broadcast online. Sohn will have a conversation with Brian O’Sullivan, who was diagnosed with mantle cell lymphoma in May of 2021. Lunch will be provided.
