Centa Quinn: Republican woman of the month
DINGMAN Centa Quinn has won the respect of all the members of The Pike County Council of Republican Women and the admiration of many in Pike County. Her warm smile and compassionate spirit serves as an example to all our fellow members . The Council is honored to have her on our Committee and is pleased to name Centa Quinn "Republican Women Of The Month". Centa Quinn was born in Port Jervis, N.Y. on Aug. 23, 1930, Centa has three brothers: Merritt, who was the mayor of Milford for eight years and served as Milford Borough councilman for over 25 years, John and James; and and a sister, Katherine Quinn Klug. Centa Quinn's name and accomplishments are legendary in Milford as well as all of Pike County. She was employed as a Clerk/Secretary at the Pennsylvania Dept of Highways from 1949 to 1955. In April of 1955 Centa was employed by the Pike County Commissioners and retired in November of 1994. She later became the Commissioners clerk and served as the clerk of the Pike County Election Board. During her time with the county, Centa's management style earned her the love and respect of all the Pike County employees. Her soft spoken manner, attention to detail and respecting the dignity of all those served under her also earned her a portrait which hangs in the Pike County Commissioner's Office in the Pike County Administration Building to this day. Centa loves to travel and has been to, Hawaii, Germany,Austria,Switzerland,England,Ireland,Italy as well as Canada. She is proud to say that she has also traveled and seen ALL the States in the United States of America. Centa enjoys gardening and bowling, she has continued to bowl for over 50 years at the Port Jervis Lanes. Centa has served on various boards and committees throughout the years. They include: Dingman Township #1 Republican Committee, Pike County Cancer Society selling daffodils, director of Pike County Library Board, director of the Milford Community House, she worked at the Pike County Fair for a number of years, director of the Board of Pike County Extension Board, member of the Milford Garden Club, member of Friends of the Library and she served as president of the Milford High School Alumni. Centa attends the First Presbyterian Church in Milford she served as a Deacon and is now a greeter. She now enjoys her time with Jessica, Jimmy,Caroline, Centa, Mary and Katharine, the children of her nephews James and Allen Quinn.
