Douglas Eugene Romer Sr. of Matamoras, Pa., a lifetime area resident, died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2016, at home with his family by his side. He was 69.
Son of George Benson Romer and Audrey Irene Wilson Romer, he was born May 29, 1947, in Warwick, N.Y.
He married Patricia J. Bowers on Jan. 29, 1966, in Warwick, N.Y.
He was a plumber for 47 years and the owner and operator of Doug Romer Plumbing & Heating, Matamoras. He was a member of Minisink Lanes Bowling League in Port Jervis bowling on the Team Lucky 13.
A family statement read, "Douglas was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He spent a lot of time with his dog Chris who followed him everywhere. He was an avid bowler and bowled on the team Lucky 13 with son and brother, Donnie. One of his other favorite things was golfing with his grandson Brett, watching Brett race cars along with watching his grandson Jacob play football and lacrosse. He most of all enjoyed making a life size doll house for his beloved granddaughter Brittany."
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Romer; daughter, Rosemary Romer; son, Douglas E. Romer Jr.; granddaughter, Brittany Romer; grandsons, Brett Romer and Jacob Loske; brothers, Charles Romer and his wife, Christine, Donald Romer and his wife, Laurie, Russell Romer and his wife, Kelly, Edsell Romer and his wife, Julia, and Jesse Romer; sisters, Shirley Cooper, Trudy Baez and her husband of Milford, and Keturah Romer; nieces, Rhonda Whyte and Tracie Hornbeck; nephew, Mark Celinko; brothers-in-law, Donald Bowers and his wife, Eleanora, and Thomas Bowers and wife, Diana; sisters-in-law, Edith Celinko and Theresa Fields; and several other nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his brothers George and Allen Romer, sisters Hilda McGraw and Irene Romer, sister-in-law, Victoria Cabral, and brothers-in-law, John and Robert Bowers, Robert Celinko and Danny Cabral.
Visitation was at Gray-Parker Funeral Home in Port Jervis on Aug. 5. Funeral services were held Aug. 5 at the funeral home, with Pastor Tom Zahradnik officiating. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Matamoras.
