Mrs. Elizabeth Violet Conklin of Sparrowbush, N.Y., died Sunday, May 2, 2021, at Garnet Health Medical Center. She was 86.
She was born June 8, 1934, in Port Jervis, N.Y., the daughter of the late Dennis DeGroat and the late Kathryn DeGroat.
Elizabeth was married to Willard Conklin in Port Jervis on July 10, 1952, and remained happily married for 56 years until his passing on Sept. 16, 2008.
A family statement read: “Mom was a strong woman all her life. When mom was not out shopping with her sisters, she could be found playing cards or doing crossword puzzles. She also loved to hit the casino at any chance she could.”
Surviving are her daughters, Nancy and her husband, Roger Vorhis, of Kingston, Ala., and Wanda and her husband, Dave Malzahn, of Defuniak Springs, Fla; son, Jeffrey and his wife, Rhoda, of Sparrowbush, N.Y.; brothers, Dennis DeGroat Jr. of Port Jervis, and Wellington and his wife, Carrie, of Port Jervis; sisters Delores Finch of Port Jervis, and Joyce and Bill Slottko of Dingman’s Ferry, Pa., and many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her loving son Willard Conklin Jr. and her sisters Nancy DeGroat, Virginia DeGroat, Jeanette Vanderveer, Helen Conklin, Kathryn Ostrom, and Evelyn Mills.
There was no visitation. Graveside services were held on May 6 at the rural Valley Cemetery wit Pastor Mike Musser officiating. Burial was in Rural Valley Cemetery, Cuddebackville, N.Y.
