With peaceful hearts we share the passing of James William Benson Sr. of Matamoras, Pa., on January 18 at his home and surrounded by his family.
Jim was survived by his wife of 68 years, Shirley Gilpin Benson; by their three children, Jim Jr, Timothy and Julie; and 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by their youngest son, Jeff.
He was a deeply loved husband, father, brother, uncle and cousin.
Jim was born in March of 1938 in Moosic, Pa., but lived most of his life in Matamoras where he built a life of substance with his family, his neighbors, his church family, and his community.
Jim retired from Orange and Rockland Utilities after 38 years of service, he was an avid outdoorsman and sports enthusiast, especially if his grandchildren were playing. But his greatest desire was to leave a legacy as a disciple of Christ. If the measure of a man is where he stands, Dad stood with Jesus.
1 Timothy 4:12 ...but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe.
There are no plans for a service at this time.
