It is with great sorrow that the family of Jeffrey Lee Foss report his passing on Friday, October 4, 2024, at Kindred Hospital in Passaic, New Jersey.
The son of the late Harry and Gloria (MacDonald) Foss, he was born on December 31, 1954, in Port Jervis, New York. He was married to Katherine (Maruszewski) Foss.
Jeff started his career working for his father’s construction company, learning all aspects of building. He quickly found a passion for all things electrical, and would later take his love for electricity and pursue a prosperous career within the industry. Jeff later went back to college and obtained his bachelor’s degree. This allowed him to further his occupation into major power supply systems for large corporations such as Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, and IBM. Jeff retired as senior project manager for Liebert Inc. in Edison, NJ.
Jeff and his wife Kathy were fortunate to have 52 years together, having met in high school. They married and shortly after, Jeff built the home where they would raise their family.
Jeff’s nickname was “Foss’ Facts.” Anyone with a question could rely on him for an insightful answer. During his athletic career at Delaware Valley High School, Jeff achieved the title of all-time top scoring basketball player, a record he held for many years. He was a humble man, often wondering why he was voted most popular; this was because he genuinely cared for all in his later years, he continued to be known as someone who would always lend a helping hand.
He shared in the joys of having two children: his son Michael and his wife Alexis, along with their four children-Aiden, Parker, Taryn, and Rachel; and his son Ryan and his partner Monica. He is also survived by others: his two sisters, Cathleen Schultz and Laurie and her husband Gus Debree; his uncle Carl Petitt; and many nephews and cousins.
His love and pride for his boys was always shown in the involvement he had with each of them throughout their activities and careers. He was pivotal in the creation of the Matamoras baseball leagues while also coaching baseball and soccer for many years. He loved walking along the river with his wife, children, and dogs and spent many days fishing in his kayak. His grandchildren knew that “Pop Pop” would always be there to help with their bikes, play chess, or have a warm lap for his girls. He was always surrounded by animals, domestic and wild, including his love of the birds, squirrels, and a possum on the porch. He was a member of the planning board, and as with any role he took on, he researched it to the fullest. Jeff was well-known for his extensive knowledge and political beliefs, and was never afraid to discuss his views and values.
He was the true definition of a renaissance man, a jack of all trades, a husband, a father, a brother, a grandfather, and a friend. His family and friends, along with many animals, will miss him forever.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in honor of Jeffrey to the Pike County Humane Society.
