Joan Audrey McLaughlin Schneider, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at The Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers, Florida, on January 3, 2024.
Joan, 85, was a resident of Milford, Pennsylvania, from 1968 to 2020, and a resident of Fort Myers, Florida, from 2021 to her passing. Joan is survived by John J. Schneider, her high school sweetheart and husband of 62 years; their two children, Colleen S. Corry (Thomas) and Duke Schneider (Kimberly); and the greatest joys in her life, her four grandchildren, Haley Schneider, Drew Corry, Erin Corry, and Heather Schneider.
Joan was born the older of two children, in Pearl River, NY, on September 23, 1938, the daughter of Joseph McLaughlin and Margaret Downs McLaughlin. Her sister, Barbara, passed away in 1961. Joan attended Lodi High School in Lodi, NJ, graduating in 1956, and worked at Garfield Trust Company in Garfield, NJ, until her marriage to John. Following John’s graduation from the United States Military Academy in 1960, and being commissioned as a second lieutenant, the couple lived in Mainz, West Germany, from 1960 to 1962, and Fort Ord, California, from 1963 to 1964, before becoming residents of Milford, Pa.
Joan enjoyed singing in church choirs, gardening, and was a member of the Milford Garden Club. Joan loved attending West Point reunions and army football games, and loved singing (especially second) the USMA alma mater following an army/navy game. Joan also worked closely with John in assisting with his estate planning practice, and with developing real estate projects in Florida.
Joan had a remarkable love of people, and her passion was her family, to whom she was entirely devoted.
A private memorial for family and friends will be held both in Fort Myers, Florida, and Milford, Pennsylvania, in the spring and summer.
