It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Elliot Weinstein, 81, on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla, New York.
An alum of Richmond Hill High School in Queens, Long Island University Brooklyn, and Brooklyn Law School, Michael was a proud marine, crediting his time in the service for being the inspiration he needed to be prepared for life. He was a two-term district attorney of Pike County, and was a lifelong active Democrat. He was a volunteer EMT with the Milford Fire Department (and a trained medic) for decades. He practiced law for 51 years, and was a brilliant and successful trial lawyer. He was an avid fisherman and sailor, and a licensed captain.
Michael was known for his strong work ethic, integrity, and unwavering commitment to his family and community. As an attorney, he passionately fought for justice and fairness in the legal system.
The son of the late William and Ruth (Shapiro) Weinstein, Michael was born on July 25, 1942, in Bronx, New York. He was married to Margaret “Peggy” (Emanuel) Weinstein.
Michael leaves behind his loving wife Margaret Weinstein; daughter Rachel Weinstein White and her husband Christopher; grandchildren Charles, Jackson, and Benjamin; stepson Joseph Emanuel (Julie); stepdaughter Erica Burnett (Jeffrey); and step-grandchildren Abbey, Molly, Daisy, and Colton.
Michael is preceded in death by his late wife Luisa Weinstein and son Jesse Weinstein.
Graveside services were held on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at the Milford Cemetery. A memorial service will be hosted by the Pike County Bar Association in the Milford Courthouse (412 Broad St., Milford, Pa.) on Friday, August 16, 2024, at 3 p.m.
