Michael Charles Scotto, 26, passed away unexpectedly on Feb. 2, 2023, surrounded by his family.
He was the son of Wendy Scotto and Anthony Scotto. He was born on Dec. 25, 1996 in Westchester, NY.
Michael was a 2018 graduate of Orange-Ulster BOCES. He was also a “Young Champion” and was given a Medal of Honor from a former general at Stewart Air Force base.
Although Michael’s life was short, he touched everyone he met. To know Michael was to love Michael! He struggled with numerous obstacles in his life, from his health issues to his disabilities, but was still full of joy and laughter and communicated that in everyway possible. Michael lived a life of love and will be greatly missed by many. He had an infectious smile and laugh, was courageous, and will continue to inspire all for years to come.
Michael enjoyed music, stories on his computer and loved going for walks around town in his wheelchair.
He is survived by his mother, Wendy and his “Oogie”, Christine Kurtz of Middletown, NY, his father, Tony and his stepmother, Kelly of Goshen, NY. He is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Madeline Kozireski and his paternal grandfather, Michele Scotto, his aunt, Elvira and her husband Ron Padavano, his aunt Theresa and husband Todd McAteer, his uncles Warren Kozireski and wife Heidi, Wayne Kozireski and wife Michele, Wesley and his wife Crystal.
He is predeceased by his maternal grandfathers, Charles Kozireski and Peter Vlahov and his paternal grandmother, Maria Scotto.
Michael received extraordinary love and care from Linda Byrons, who was a part of his life for many years. The family would like to thank Orange-Ulster BOCES and the wonderful care he received there for so many years.
Funeral arrangements under the care of Donovan Funeral Home, Goshen NY. Visitation hours will be on Wednesday, Feb. 8 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. There will be a brief service graveside at St. John’s cemetery on Thursday at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Michael’s name to the Maria Ferrari Children’s Hospital or to a charity of one’s choice.
