Natalie Alicia Snyder
Natalie Alicia (Ryder) Snyder, 91, of Gladys, Va. died at Lynchburg General Hospital on April 8, 2013.
Snyder was born in Dingmans Ferry, Pa. on Jan. 14, 1922, the daughter of Cecil Ollie and Cemantha (Snyder) Ryder.
She was the granddaughter of Mrs. James W. (Josie) Ryder whose father, Benjamin De Groat was a member of Company B (US Civil War) of Milford, PA. Josie was the last surviving member of the Gettysburg Chapter of the Daughters of the Union.
Natalie was born and raised through the depression when money was very scarce. As a child, she came to live on her aunt and uncle’s farm, John and Irene Snyder in Dingman’s Ferry. Her cousins Les and Len were as brothers. She worked 15 years on the assembly-line at Ronson Corporation, Flame Products Division in Delaware Water Gap. In the early 1980’s, Natalie and George moved from Stroudsburg, Pa. to Taralane Drive, Punta Gorda, Fla. where they lived in a community of family and friends. They enjoyed retirement and golf for 25 years until George’s death in 2005.
Natalie is predeceased by her husband, George Calvin Snyder, USMC, WWII, corporal, and her sisters, Mildred Jagger, Lillian Trieble, Joan Mervine, and brothers Frank, Ollie and Gerald Ryder.
She is survived by her son James D. and his wife Patricia C. Snyder of Stanley, N.C.; grandsons Christopher L. and his wife Mary-Frances Snyder of Gladys, Va. and Kevin J. and his wife Cassandra E. Snyder of Huntersville, N.C.; great-grandchildren Leah Carwile and husband Scott Carwile, Ethan, Eliza and Cole (Nicholas) Snyder of Virginia and Sydney and Zoe Snyder of North Carolina; and great-great granddaughter Carly Carwile.
Natalie will be buried along with her husband, George, with military honors, in Delaware Cemetery in Dingman’s Ferry, Pa. at a later date.
