Knock-knock, it’s Lisa McAteer!
Milford. Catching up with this notable local businesswoman and community supporter.
Realtor Lisa McAteer and her team of 12 people have changed the way real estate is done in Pike County, thanks, in part, to the recognizable catchphrase in her ads, saying “Knock Knock! It’s Lisa McAteer” in a lilting, effervescent clearly identifiable voice.
Her real estate firm, “McAteer & Will Estates with Keller Williams Real Estate,” is part of Keller Williams, the largest real estate franchise company in the world with over 200,000 associates in more than 1,100 locations. In fact, her firm was just named the number one real estate franchise in the Scranton-Wilkes Barre area, with 121 listings and 245 units sold, totaling $72,435,493.
Lisa grew up in Sparta, NJ, and as a young girl used to watch Home and Garden TV shows with her mom. She was obsessed with how the realtors brought clients into the houses. It was then that she began her love of real estate. Later, when she married Alex McAteer, and they had young children, she took a job selling software in the health care market. It was perfect because she could work remotely when her children were young. Now her children, Ava, 16, and Gavin, 12, attend the Delaware Valley school district. She is the type of person who puts family and community first. Eventually husband Alex, who was in the title end of the business, helped Lisa launch her career.
One of the reasons for her success is that she makes people feel as if they are the only person in the world that matters. She looks at them directly, listens intently, and conveys sincerity and empathy at the same time.
The McAteers moved to Milford because of its small town feel and its beautiful setting. At first, she said she felt very isolated. Life was challenging. McAteer is not a person who stands still for very long, so she launched a Facebook page called “Pike County Pennsylvania Moms,” whose motto is “Powerful Women, Productive Lives, Empower, Believe, Succeed!” This private group now has 6,900 members. Lisa has a strong fundamental belief in the power of community. Another Facebook group that she launched is “Pike County Pa Everything,” which now has 17,900 members. Its purpose is to bring the community together with positive energy, raffles, and a showing of community spirit. It’s also a tool for local businesses to get more involved in the community.
McAteer is all about community, whether she’s physically volunteering to work (she was a celebrity bartender for two years to raise money for Pike County Autism Support Services), or contributing money to various organizations (she contributed $15,000 to the DV Educational Foundation over a period of three years). She also helps organize several community events for Halloween, Christmas, Easter, and the spectacular July 4th fireworks at Airport Park. Thousands of people attend these events, which Lisa choreographs with incredible attention to detail. They also give local businesses a chance to participate.
For her efforts, the Pike County Chamber of Commerce honored her with the 2023 Rising Star and Hometown awards, and recently invited her to be a board member for 2024 and 2025.
When asked what could be improved about Milford, Lisa said, “I think there’s an opportunity for more businesses to come together. Milford is only going to get bigger and better with community spirit and neighborly love.” And she is doing her part to help make that happen.
