Fiery collision kills one

    MILFORD - State police say 38-year-old Anastacio Rivera-Rivera of Milford died May 13 after the 1995 Hyundai Sonata he was driving collided with a 2001 Ford Explorer driven by Tara Cleary, 39, of Milford. The accident took place on curve in Log Tavern Road at 3:47 p.m., when police say Rivera-Rivera lost control of his westbound car, crossed the center line and struck Cleary’s oncoming Ford. Cleary’s car caught fire, but she and passenger Frank Zimmerman, 48, of New York, were able to exit the vehicle. Rivera-Rivera, who suffered severe head trauma, was trapped in his vehicle which bystanders were able to pull away from the burning Cleary vehicle. Following extrication, Rivera-Rivera was airlifted to Community Medical Center in Scranton where he died. He was not wearing a seat belt. Cleary and Zimmerman were wearing seat belts. Zimmerman was uninjured. Cleary’s injuries were termed moderate and she was transported to Newton Memorial Hospital for treatment.
