Homes of the holidays: a tour

VERNON, N.J. - Seven exquisitely decorated historic homes are the featured attractions of the second annual holiday house tour being sponsored by the Vernon Township Historical Society. All of the houses with the exception of Deercroft, which was built in 1927, are at least two centuries old. The tour will run from 1 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10. “Last year’s holiday house tour was a tremendous success,” said Historical Society president Jessica Paladini. “We expect an even greater turnout this year.” Refreshments will be served at each house, and some will also have additional holiday attractions, including Christmas carolers and Santa. On this year’s tour are: • Deercroft at Lake Wallkill, 24 Wallkill Drive • Victorian Acres, 1798 Route 565 • The Wawayanda Homestead Farm, 10 Dekay Road • The Sammis House, 5 Sleepy Hollow Road • The Little Farm, 1511 Route 565 • The Apple Valley Inn, 967 Route 517 • The Alpine Haus, 217 Route 94 Advance tickets are $22.50 and can be purchased by calling Joan Magura at 973-875-9562. Tickets can be purchased on the day of the event for $25 at any of the houses on the tour, where maps showing the exact location of each house are also available.
