26th Annual Fishing Derby winners announced
Milford. The annual contest was held on April 20 at Lily Pond on Schocopee Road.
The Pike County Commissioners held their 26th Annual Fishing Derby for children on April 20 at Lily Pond. According to the county, the derby had a great turnout with nearly 250 registered participants!
Prizes included fishing poles, rods and reel kits; other fishing instruments were awarded to the largest catch among each age group.
The largest trout recorded was 17 inches and caught by Mason Beech in the 12 to 13 year age group. The grand prize for overall largest trout was a new fishing pole, tackle box, a tote/stadium seat donated by Blue Ridge Communications, and a $25 gift card to Dick’s Sporting Goods donated by Ray’s Auto.
While announcing the winners, the Commissioners expressed thanks to the many sponsors and volunteers who made this event a success, including Affordable Medical Transportation, Blooming Grove Hunt & Fish Club, Blue Ridge Communications, Friends of Warrior Football, Hagemann’s Bait and Tackle, the Lemon Family, LJ Bogumil Inc, Luhrs’ True Value Hardware, Matamoras Rod & Gun Club, the McGrath Family, Northwell Health, Pike County Outfitters, Pike County Federation of Sportsmen’s Club, Pike County maintenance staff, the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, Ray’s Truck and Auto Repair, and volunteers Randy Fuller and James Leiser.
The Commissioners also extend a special thank you to Northwell Health for their donation of $5,000, which covered the cost of stocking the pond, and also to the Pike County maintenance staff for setting up the event.
