ARTery Gallery’s ‘Water is Life’ exhibit highlights two local artists
Milford. The show celebrates the beauty of water, from the vast oceans to your local babbling brook.
In its final featured members exhibit for the season, the ARTery Gallery, located at 210 Broad Street, Milford, will show works by Carol Ann Lyons and Marie Liu. Titled “Water is Life” the exhibit celebrates water in its many forms. Both artists have focused much of their art on the many mannerisms and metaphoric qualities of water, the gallery explained.
Lyons uses a printmaking processes that aims to capture the characteristics of the sea and the world within it. “Growing up around bodies of water all her life, she believes protecting water everything,” the gallery noted in its exhibit announcement. “It is found in all living things, whether living at the bottom of the ocean or in the driest desert. Carol’s artistic exploration resulted in a series of revelatory and sensual creatures engaged in a fight for, not only survival, but for love and their connection to water. Carol expands the allegorical element by creating dialectic between her creatures, (fish, mermaids, fairies, birds and turtles, etc.) their inner world and what they encounter within their environment. Yet, for their entire struggle and all the challenges, a gentle current of hope remains possible. Through the multi-textured, self-developed printmaking techniques, Carol draws the viewers’ attention to the various ‘tales’ each work of art represents.”
Moving more inward, Liu’s work focuses on the rivers, creeks and waterfalls that surround her in the Poconos. Her medium of choice is oil paint. “She endeavors to relay the spiritual healing found through water, a timely theme, as 90% of the exceptional quality waterways in PA are located here in the Pocono region and the battle to protect them continues today as it has since the industrial revolution,” the gallery explained. “The blessings of pure water to drink, beautiful waterways to relieve stress, and commune with nature permeates her imagery and are a continual inspiration to her.”
A reception celebrating these two local artists, and their favored natural resource, will be held on Saturday, October 14, from 6 to 9 p.m. The public is welcomed and refreshments will be provided. The exhibit will be on display from October 12 through November 6. The gallery is open Thursday through Monday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
