— The Pike County Council of Republican Women broke attendance records for its annual spring dinner, held this year on April 9 at Silver Birches under the new leadership of President Kelly Gaughan.
The room was filled with Pike Republicans, ranging from high school student Andrew Kidd to World War II veteran Ed Lettieri.
"It was wonderful to have over 150 guests in attendance for our dinner," said Gaughan, who chaired the event.
Included among the attendees were State Senator Lisa Baker, State Representatives Michael Peifer and Rosemary Brown, Judge Emil Giordano, Pike County Court of Common Pleas Judge Gregory Chelak, Commissioner Matt Osterberg, and a long list of local officials, local candidates, and community members.
“It’s important that we elect the judges that interpret the law and not make new law," Giordano, candidate for Pennsylvania Superior Court. "That is the job of the legislature.”
Judge Giordano received the coveted “Highly Recommended” rating from the Pennsylvania Bar Association. He has been a frequent visitor to Pike County since his childhood days spent in Birchwood Lakes, Dingmans Ferry, and has a great appreciation of small town values.
Dan Meuser, former Pennsylvania Secretary of Revenue and businessman, said he was thrilled to be part of the event.
“I appreciate the history and mission of the PCCRW," he said. "All you need to do is review their accomplishments to understand the importance of the PCCRW in elections, local, state and national. Kelly Gaughan and the Council have a lot to be proud of.”
Meuser said he is exploring the running for lieutenant governor in 2018.
Judge Chelak spoke about positive changes and new programs over the years, including the Mortgage Diversion program to assist homeowners, the addition to the courthouse, which is underway along with youth programs. P
The Pike County Council of Republican Women will use the dinner proceeds to support their scholarship fund and the Republican party. Anyone interested in becoming a member is invited to email Gaughan at gaughaesq@gmail.com for information.
